Flying High at New College Bradford

During our recent Ofsted monitoring visit, in which we received the highest possible grading across all inspection areas, one of the many strengths observed was our Personal Development Curriculum and the exceptional enrichment opportunities we provide our students.  We gave a taster of our enrichment offer to 90 able and talented students, who joined us from across 11 Bradford secondary schools for our Inaugural Festival of Progression.  One such opportunity on the day involved interacting with a selection of birds of prey.

York Birds of Prey visited our campus, bringing along a number of ‘feathered friends’ for the students to hold, with the opportunity to ask questions of the expert falconers.  This was accompanied by a presentation regarding the science of flight in the animal kingdom.  Experiencing ‘out of the ordinary’ opportunities supports our students with their university applications, with 83% of our Year 13 progressing to university this Autumn.  Here’s what the students had to say:

The activity I liked the most was the Birds of Prey because I got to hold them..nobody else has this sort of activity‘.  (Abu-Bakar – Carlton Bolling College)

Today was amazing. I loved all of the activities especially the Birds of Prey‘.  (Mahnoor – Carlton Bolling College).

I really liked the Birds of Prey and holding all the birds‘.  (Amelia – Bradford Forster Academy)
‘I really enjoyed the Birds of Prey’.  (Lucy – St. Bede’s and St. Joseph’s Catholic College)

Thank you again York Bird of Prey, it was a really amazing experience.
