Another year and yet another “out of this world” visit to the Outward Bound Centre (Ullswater).
This year, our Year 12 students were led by two of our Year 13 students who had the opportunity to grow and develop their own leadership skills as they prepare for careers in the Police and Royal Air Force. It was also a privilege to have our Principle (Stuart) and Assistant Principle (Jon) join us to witness the extent to which our students grow and develop their physical and soft skills over the course of the week.
Throughout the week our students took part in countless outdoor activities such as rock jumping, gorge-walking and a two-day expedition in difficult conditions which tested the group to their limits. We have to give a special mention to Dan (our Outward Bound Instructor) who played a pivotal role in challenging our students in a safe and supportive environment, and we highly recommend the Outward Bound Trust to any education establishment who seek opportunities to develop their young people’s physical and soft skills.
As the Outward Bound Trust say; “If you want to walk fast, walk alone. But, if you want to walk far, walk together”. Well, this week, our students certainly appreciated the value of walking together every step of the way, with the realisation of strengths and weaknesses they never knew they had.
