New College Bradford is exceptionally proud of student Farida Kotochi Adam, who has recently published her book Aqwa, showcasing her incredible creativity, ambition, and dedication.
Aqwa is now available to purchase on Amazon, and copies are also available in the College’s Learning Resource Centre for students to borrow and enjoy.
Farida’s journey as a writer began at a very young age.
“Ever since I was young, I’ve enjoyed writing,” Farida explained. “When I was little, my parents would challenge me to write short stories, and I’d receive a small treat or prize afterwards.”
Her passion for storytelling led her to write her first book at just nine years old. Her first published novel, Aleena, was planned and written while she was in Year 8.
“My friends and family enjoyed reading it, and their feedback encouraged me to keep writing,” she said.
Farida shared that her latest book, Aqwa, was inspired by her love of Turkish dramas and her interest in horse riding.
“That’s how Aqwa came to life — a story built around secrets, betrayal, and the strong bond between a horse and its rider.”
Alongside her success as a published author, Farida has also recently been selected for one of New College Bradford’s overseas residential trips. This summer, two groups of students will be travelling to Rwanda and the Philippines for two weeks to work with young people in local communities.
Farida will be taking part in the Philippines trip, where she and 15 other New College students will be delivering lessons and activities to young people, including sports-based sessions and creative workshops.
Reflecting on her experience at New College Bradford, Farida said:
“I really enjoy college. Year 12 has been my favourite year of education so far. I like the timetable because it gives me independence and time to work productively during study periods.
“I’ve made new friends in both Year 12 and Year 13. The Year 13 students have given me great advice that has helped with my studies. Although I found it difficult to adapt at first, I’ve learned a lot from the mistakes I made in my early assessments.”
Farida also spoke about how the overseas experience will support her future ambitions.
“Being selected is a huge opportunity, especially because I want to study medicine. It will be a massive benefit for my future, and it would have been far too good to turn down.”
Farida’s achievements are a brilliant example of the creativity, ambition, and hard work shown by students at New College Bradford. The College community looks forward to seeing what she accomplishes next and wishes her every success with both her writing and her upcoming international experience.
