Tuesday 20th March saw 110 students from 4 schools across the Bradford region visit New College in Pontefract for our second #beinspired day. The event was to give the high school students a flavor of what we will be bringing to Bradford city centre in 2019. They got to spend a day in the life of a sixth form student at our Ofsted outstanding graded college, joining current New College students in their A-Level and BTEC lessons, as well as taking part in a challenge session in the afternoon.
The schools in attendance were:
Carlton Bolling
Bradford Academy
Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College
and
Bradford Forsters Academy
Students were surveyed both before and after the event. Some of the fascinating results were as follows:
Are you considering studying at a sixth form college?
Yes – Before 41%, after 81%, a fantastic increase of 40%.
How well informed do you feel about post-16 choices?
Well or quite informed – before 46%, after 86%, another increase of 40%
Are you considering higher education?
Yes – Before 71%, after 87%
Other headline figures were: 94% of students said that they had been inspired by the event, and 63% of all students surveyed said that they were now considering studying at New College Bradford.
The visiting students were also asked to provide one thing that they had learnt from the day. Some of the information given was:
How interesting Law is
What a sixth form college can offer me
I know about the college atmosphere
The teachers treat you like adults
You have lots of choice and independence
A sixth form college opens many different doors
That you can be your own individual and follow your own pathways
